St partick's Day facts

  1. St patrick was born in England.
  2. He was a prankster son of the mayor of the town.
  3. The Irish raided his town and took him as a slave.
  4. After nearly a decade of slavery, he managed to earn his freedom.
  5. He has a vision telling him to return to England.
  6. He had a second vision telling him to return to ireland as a missionary.
  7. He joined the Christian church and spent 15 years learning to be a missionary.
  8. He returned to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity.
  9. He succeded in converting most of Ireland to Christianity from the Celtik druidism
  10. He is believed to have died on March 17, around 460 A.D.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  2. Grease two 8x4 inch loaf pans.
  3. Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  4. Add the eggs, sour cream and raisins and mix until just combined.
  5. Distribute batter evenly between the two pans.
  6. Bake loaves at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 1 hour.

  1. Pour all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until mixed.
  2. Pour into a sealable container and store in the refrigerator.
  3. Serve in shot glasses.

Beef and Irish Stout Stew

  1. Toss the beef cubes with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  2. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Dredge the beef in this to coat.
  4. Heat the remaining oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the beef, and brown on all sides. Add the onions, and garlic.
  6. Stir the tomato paste into a small amount of water to dilute; pour into the pan and stir to blend.
  7. Reduce the heat to medium, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Pour 1/2 cup of the beer into the pan, and as it begins to boil, scrape any bits of food from the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon.
  9. This adds a lot of flavor to the broth.
  10. Pour in the rest of the beer, and add the carrots and thyme. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  11. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Shortbread Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, cream butter and 1 cup of sugar until very fluffy.
  3. Gradually add the flour and rice flour.
  4. As the dough gets stiffer, turn it out onto a well floured surface, and knead it until smooth.
  5. Press dough into a 10x15 inch jellyroll pan, score into bars and prick with a fork.
  6. Sprinkle remaining sugar over the top, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown.
  7. Cut along scored lines into bars while still warm.
  8. Cool before serving.
