Pumatech's Mind-itTM Change Detection and Notification Engine Gives VERITAS Software Technical Support Engineers Instant Access To Updated Support Documentation and Tools Anytime, Anywhere
SAN JOSE, Calif. - (2/26/01) - Pumatech Inc. (Nasdaq: PUMA), the leading provider of software infrastructure for the mobile Internet, today announced a licensing agreement with VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), The Data Availability Company, to integrate Pumatech's Mind-it change detection and notification engine into its technical support department. VERITAS Software, a leading provider of data availability solutions for mission-critical systems worldwide, utilizes Mind-it to link technical support employees with important support documentation and tools.Through this agreement, Mind-it, a component of Pumatech's Mobile Application Platform (MAP), will help VERITAS Software technicians efficiently monitor and navigate through updated portal content such as technical notes, how-to information and call logs to improve the process by which they address their customers' technical support issues.
"It is crucial that technical support personnel are able not only to find the precise information they need, but also that they are alerted when that information is updated," said Brad Rowe, president, CEO, and co-founder of Pumatech. "Through our experience in supporting the connectivity needs of Fortune 500 companies, we have developed a comprehensive understanding of how to help organizations such as VERITAS Software work more efficiently by offering them access to the mission-critical information they need, when and where they need it."
Mind-it is one of three components of Pumatech's Mobile Application Platform, the common server platform on which the company is building a host of new mobile solutions. Mind-it change detection, notification and personalization software allows users of Web-enabled phones, cell phones, handhelds, pagers, and PCs to track specific business and personal information on the Internet, and to be notified promptly when that information changes. VERITAS Software is deploying Mind-it across its corporate intranet for access by hundreds of employees who make up the company's technical support division. VERITAS Software also plans to use Mind-it to extend access to valuable technical information directly to end users via the Internet.
"The integration of Mind-it with Oracle databases was a major driving force behind our decision to adopt Pumatech's solution," said Lee Small, director of technical services, VERITAS Software. "Mind-it is improving our workflow by allowing our technical support engineers to monitor both internal and external documents quickly and efficiently, and to service customers with technical issues more effectively."
ABOUT MAP
The Mobile Application Platform (MAP) is the common server platform on which Pumatech is building its new mobile solutions. Designed for maximum scalability and performance, MAP includes synchronization (Sync-itTM) and web browsing (Browse-itTM) capabilities, in addition to Mind-it. MAP provides ubiquitous access to mobile devices over both wired and wireless media, and does not require the PC to act as a gateway to the network. The platform is hosted in the public Internet space via Pumatech's Intellisync.comSM Web service, and will also be deployed inside the firewalls of major corporations. MAP is available for licensing to carriers, ISPs and Web portals, as well as to corporations looking to utilize its capabilities behind firewall installations.
