Action Alleges Infringement Of Seven Synchronization-related Patents Owned By Pumatech
SAN JOSE, Calif. (4/22/02) - Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), a leading provider of enterprise-level software products and services that deliver highly relevant information wherever and whenever it's needed, announced today that it has filed a patent infringement action in the U.S. District Court in Northern California against Extended Systems, Inc., alleging that Extended Systems' server and desktop products infringe on seven of Pumatech's synchronization-related patents. In the suit, Pumatech is seeking an injunction against future sales of Extended Systems' infringing server and desktop products, as well as damages for past sales of the infringing products. Pumatech has alleged that Extended Systems' infringement of the seven synchronization patents was willful and deliberate, entitling Pumatech to an award of treble damages, costs and reasonable attorneys' fees.

"This intellectual property is an invaluable asset to the Company, and we will continue to take appropriate and necessary action to protect it both now and in the future."
Pumatech was awarded its first synchronization patent in 1995, and holds a total of 11 U.S. patents relating to various aspects of its intelligent synchronization technology. The technology behind these patents fuels Pumatech's best-selling Intellisync synchronization engine, which has been shipping since 1996.
