Agreement Illustrates The Growing Adoption Of Pumatech's Enterprise/Consumer Software And Mobile Application Platform (MAP) Worldwide
SAN JOSE, Calif. (5/9/01) - Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), the leading provider of software infrastructure for the mobile Internet, today announced an agreement with BAAS Network, a leading mobile solutions company in South Korea catering to the mobile enterprise and consumer markets. Through this agreement, Pumatech extends the global reach of its Enterprise software and Mobile Application Platform (MAP) by establishing a presence in South Korea. The reseller agreement with BAAS Network represents Pumatech's ongoing strategy to gain traction among sales channels including independent software vendors (ISVs), systems integrators (SIs), value-added resellers (VARs), e-businesses and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Through the agreement with BAAS Network, Pumatech now has a presence in South Korea that complements its global expansion into Japan, Germany, the UK, and Australia. As part of this deal, BAAS Network will resell Pumatech's Intellisync Anywhere and Satellite Forms software to its enterprise customers. Intellisync Anywhere provides remote and LAN-based synchronization between Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino and a variety of handheld device types. Satellite Forms makes it easy to create custom Palm OS applications that integrate with desktop or server databases.
BAAS Network will also resell Pumatech's Browse-it software to its enterprise customer base, as well as provide access to the product via its consumer iHandyGo.com Web portal to allow individuals to access the Internet via any wireless device. As one of the key components of Pumatech's MAP architecture, Browse-it allows users to view the entire Web in real time, or offline by taking unique Browse-it Snapshots. Users can simply capture Web pages, download them to a Palm OS handheld device, and view the content at their own convenience.
"It makes a great deal of sense for us to enter this agreement with BAAS for two strategic reasons," said Steve Nicol, co-founder and executive vice president of sales and business development for Pumatech. "First, it illustrates our overall strategy to leverage third-party vendors, such as VARs, to deliver our Enterprise and MAP offerings to our target corporate, carrier and device manufacturer markets. It is also demonstrates the growing demand for our wireless services across the globe in markets such as Korea, where the wireless Internet is currently gaining large-scale momentum."
"As part of our ongoing commitment to offer our customers new and innovative services, we are regularly looking to partner with companies such as Pumatech, which can provide us with an entire suite of wireless services rather than a few point solutions," said Heungsik Choi, chief technology officer for BAAS Network. "We selected Pumatech based on its reputation as a leading platform provider for the wireless Internet, with years of experience in developing valuable solutions for both consumers and the corporate enterprise."
