Pumatech announces licensing and distribution agreement with Scopeware

SAN JOSE, Calif. (05/21/02) - Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), the leading provider of enterprise-level software products and services that deliver highly relevant information wherever and whenever it's needed, today announced that Mirror Worlds Technologies, developers of Scopeware, will license Pumatech's industry-leading Enterprise Intellisync server-to-server connectivity and synchronization technology. The combined solution will enable users of Scopeware, the new knowledge management solution for the enterprise marketplace, to uncover valuable corporate information hidden in the large number of e-mail messages, calendars, and contact records created each day in the typical enterprise. Scopeware users will be able to synchronize their calendar, contacts, tasks and e-mail between Scopeware and Microsoft Outlook (via Microsoft Exchange), Lotus Notes (via Lotus Domino), and PDA/wireless devices.

Under the terms of the agreement announced today, Mirror Worlds will license Pumatech's XML toolkit to embed a version of Enterprise Intellisync Server that provides server-to-server synchronization with Mirror Worlds' Scopeware software. This embedded functionality will be a core part of the Scopeware server distributed by Mirror Worlds under license with Pumatech. In addition, Mirror Worlds will purchase a license to distribute a version of the Enterprise Intellisync Server that will enable Scopeware clients to deploy a wireless device synchronization solution throughout the enterprise, creating "three-way" synchronization capability among Scopeware, the Enterprise Intellisync Server (Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange), and Palm OS or Pocket PC/Windows CE handhelds. Scopeware customers can purchase the wireless synchronization solution by upgrading to a full version of Pumatech's Enterprise Intellisync Server that will also support Scopeware.

"One of the greatest challenges facing firms today is how to tap the potential of unstructured data in the enterprise," said Dr. David Gelernter, chief scientist of Mirror World Technologies. "The integration of Pumatech's Enterprise Intellisync Server with Scopeware will provide more complete access to, and leverage of, unstructured data contained in the enterprise, turning often overlooked PIM information into valuable assets for improved insight."

Scopeware is an affordable, rapidly deployable knowledge management solution that leverages existing IT investments to automatically capture, manage and safeguard information collected from disparate sources for greater insight into the enterprise. Scopeware mines, in real-time, corporate network repositories for information without forcing employees to remember file folder names, locations, or the applications originally used. The product dispatches "intelligent agents" that link to thousands of repositories (including OCR-scanned documents), then, logically and in a time-ordered sequence (known as the Stream of Information), displays what is relevant. Employees are not required to change their behavior; Scopeware automatically leverages all corporate information and makes it available to those who need it via a single, easy-to-use interface accessible from PCs and/or wireless devices.

Pumatech's Enterprise Intellisync Server - a major component of Pumatech's Enterprise Intellisync, Second Edition package - provides a single resource for synchronizing PIM, e-mail and custom database information, both locally and remotely, between desktop PCs, servers and mobile devices, and for managing handheld devices and software from one centralized location.

"Groupware solutions like Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes are the information backbone of today's enterprise," said Brad Rowe, Pumatech's president, CEO, and co-founder. "By licensing our Enterprise Intellisync server-to-server technology, Mirror Worlds can now offer Scopeware users the ability to access pertinent data from the mountain of information residing in Exchange or Notes, precisely when and where they need it. The integration of Enterprise Intellisync Server with the Scopeware product will help companies to become Real-time Enterprises by ensuring that vital business information is easily accessible."

ABOUT MIRROR WORLDS TECHNOLOGIES
Mirror Worlds Technologies (MWT) was founded on the basic premise that information should be woven into a flowing narrative stream with a past, present and future that you can tune in from anywhere in cyberspace. Information should reflect the structure of your life, not the structure of your computers. Fueled by his 1992 book, Mirror Worlds, and encapsulating a decade of research by world-renowned Yale professor and MWT Chief Scientist, Dr. David Gelernter, MWT developed the patented Scopeware technology based on this premise. Scopeware leverages and protects enterprise knowledge contained within structured and unstructured information, providing operational efficiency, organizational velocity, and competitive advantage.
