SAN JOSE, Calif. (06/19/02) - Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), the leading provider of synchronization software and services, today announced that two key components of its latest Web-based, multi-point synchronization software - Sync-it 1.3 - were recently awarded SyncML certification by the SyncML Interoperability Committee (SIC). Both the Pocket PC client and the Sync-it 1.3 server itself successfully demonstrated compliance by passing a rigorous testing suite on June 4, 2002 at the SyncFest event in Hong Kong. The SyncML compliance of Sync-it 1.3's Pocket PC client and multi-point sync server demonstrates Pumatech's ongoing commitment to developing products in support of the common data synchronization standard that enables companies to confidently implement solutions that ensure interoperability with all mobile devices and applications.
Based on Pumatech's industry-leading Intellisync synchronization software, Sync-it 1.3 is a multi-point, Web-based synchronization solution licensed to third-party organizations that have existing Web-based PIM data (primarily carriers) and want to add value to their existing products and services. The continued proliferation of SyncML-compliant technologies like Pumatech's Sync-it 1.3 will provide enterprises and other businesses with the functionality and compatibility they need to easily deploy mobile technologies on a large scale to diverse communities of users. The SyncML certification awarded to Pumatech's Sync-it 1.3 will also enable carriers, Web portals and ISPs who license the technology to extend value-added synchronization solutions that offer broad device and application support. Sync-it 1.3 will begin shipping in June 2002.
Pumatech's Pocket PC SyncML client allows users to synchronize information held in Pocket Outlook (contacts, calendar and to-do's) to the Sync-it server and then on to any other sync point (for example, to a desktop computer or SyncML-compliant phone). The Pumatech Pocket PC SyncML client can also be used with any third-party SyncML-compliant server, offering customers future flexibility in choosing sync architectures.
"As solution providers, enterprises and consumers all increasingly move toward Web-based solutions, resulting in the storing of PIM data in online repositories, end users will begin to demand more than just 'point-to-point' sync," said Pumatech Vice President of Marketing Richard Walker. "The need to synchronize multiple end-points - desktop PCs, PDAs and cell phones - to this Web-based data becomes increasingly critical, requiring technology and standards that go beyond simple desktop sync solutions. Sync-it 1.3 enables this new paradigm, while also leveraging new devices based on the SyncML standard."
