Intellisync® software for BlackBerryTM handhelds enables IT management to leverage Pumatech's Enterprise IntellisyncTM console to provide advanced Intellisync synchronization software configurations for BlackBerry devices - all from one, centralized location.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (07/23/02) - Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), the leading provider of synchronization software for mobile workers, today announced a version of Intellisync® software that, when used in combination with the Administrator's Console component of Pumatech's Enterprise IntellisyncTM software, gives enterprise IT personnel the ability to deploy advanced configurations and help manage Intellisync software for BlackBerryTM handhelds from one, centralized location. The resulting solution lowers total cost of ownership for BlackBerry handhelds by enabling IT to pre-configure and troubleshoot Intellisync software from a central console, without having to go from desk to desk to perform these tasks.
Intellisync software is already integrated with BlackBerry desktop software, and this latest version is expected to begin shipping with BlackBerry handhelds as early as this fall. Enterprise Intellisync, including the Administrator's Console, is available separately from Pumatech (http://www.pumatech.com/ei_desktop_main.html). Companies using BlackBerry handhelds can purchase Enterprise Intellisync at a special upgrade price. Call 1-800-224-5430 for more information. "Pumatech's Enterprise Intellisync software will provide corporate IT departments with advanced configuration capabilities to enable centralized control of Intellisync for BlackBerry handhelds," said Dave Werezak, vice president of marketing at Research In Motion. "Pumatech and RIM are committed to providing our customers with solutions that enable them to easily integrate with their corporate inbox and organizer features."
By using Intellisync in conjunction with the Administrator's Console component of Enterprise Intellisync, IT management can create and deploy Intellisync configuration templates that ensure security while meeting the synchronization needs of different groups or individual users. This capability enables IT, for example, to set password protection to prevent others from changing configuration settings or options, or to prohibit access to specific information. In addition, IT can limit changes allowed to software settings - by individual or group - or restrict access to certain Intellisync features, such as filtering and field mapping. The Enterprise Intellisync console also allows IT to troubleshoot potential problems more effectively by viewing logs for each BlackBerry user.
Intellisync enables users to synchronize calendars, contacts and tasks between their BlackBerry handhelds and essential PC applications, including Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes. Intellisync ensures accuracy and reliability with such powerful features as custom filtering (syncs specific ranges of information), conflict resolution (eliminates duplicate entries), and intelligent field mapping (ensures data enters the proper fields).
"BlackBerry handhelds have gained wide acceptance in today's enterprise environments," stated Woodson (Woody) Hobbs, Pumatech president and CEO. "We're delighted to provide a combined solution that allows IT personnel to manage usage of Intellisync with BlackBerry handhelds. By creating tighter integration between BlackBerry handhelds and existing enterprise applications such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, Intellisync and the Enterprise Intellisync console should help to significantly lower total cost of ownership for these highly capable devices."
