Pumatech Forges Distribution Agreement With Brightpoint

Pumatech's Intellisync® Product Line Offers Strong Value Proposition For VARS

SAN JOSE, Calif. (9/10/01) Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), a leading provider of enterprise-level software products and services that deliver highly relevant information - wherever and whenever it's needed, today announced an agreement with Brightpoint North America L.P., a subsidiary of Brightpoint, Inc. (NASDAQ:CELL) and one of the world's largest distributors of mobile phones. Under the agreement, Brightpoint will market, sell and support Pumatech products - including Intellisync and Intellisync Anywhere software - to wireless carriers, related retailers and Wireless Value-Added Resellers (WVARs) in the U.S.

"Our relationship with Brightpoint illustrates our success in driving the adoption of our technology in the corporate marketplace through strategic alliances with resellers, VARS and ISVs," said Steve Nicol, executive vice president of sales and co-founder of Pumatech. "Through our agreement with Brightpoint, we will gain new inroads into the wireless carrier, enterprise and retail markets, and increase overall accessibility and market awareness of our products for the real-time enterprise."

Pumatech's Intellisync products provide the most current view into critical business information, which can instantly be used to make informed decisions that drive businesses forward. As a result, Pumatech is empowering companies to maintain a high level of productivity by enabling their employees to receive relevant and timely information in a real-time enterprise environment. Pumatech's wide range of synchronization solutions, which are designed for the full spectrum of wireless and mobile devices, will complement the already robust selection of market- leading wireless and mobile technologies offered through Brightpoint's carrier, retail and WVAR channels. Brightpoint's value-added service and support program was created to address the convergence of wireless communications, data and handheld computing into what the company calls the Wireless Value Added Reseller (WVAR) Channel. The WVAR channel supports companies that market wireless data solutions to small and mid-sized businesses, corporations and government agencies, allowing them to offer a choice of hardware devices, wireless network connectivity and software from the world's leading manufacturers and carriers.

"Much of our success in servicing the North American wireless telecommunications and data industry has been driven by our ability to forge relationships with many of the world's leading providers of mobile and wireless technology," said J. Mark Howell, president of Brightpoint. "Pumatech's position as a leader in synchronization technology, combined with its track record in delivering powerful, enterprise-level solutions to Fortune 1000 companies, will allow us to extend synchronization capabilities to our customers."
