SAN JOSE, Calif. (11/28/01) - Pumatech Inc. (Nasdaq: PUMA), a leading provider of enterprise-level software products and services that deliver highly relevant information wherever and whenever it's needed, today announced a partnership with Systar, a subsidiary of Systex Corporation, Taiwan's largest software and information technology company. Through the agreement, Systar will build systems integration solutions for the mobile computing market utilizing both the Chinese and English language versions of Pumatech's Intellisync product family, along with the Company's Satellite Forms , Mind-it and Browse-it software.
"The need for systems integration solutions for mobile computing that incorporate both English and traditional Chinese languages is growing," said Vira Chang, general manager of Systar. "The combination of our leading information services in the Taiwan market and the rich feature set of Pumatech's product family will enable us to provide customized enterprise solutions that address the rising demands of our customers. This agreement strengthens the market potential of enterprise-based mobile tools and demonstrates Systar and Pumatech's market leadership in Taiwan." Gartner Group Dataquest's recent report, "Asia/Pacific PDA Market in 2000", showed that Chinese-speaking countries (China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan) lead the Asia/Pacific market in unit shipments of PDAs. In 2000, Taiwan accounted for nearly 80,000 PDA units shipped, with that number predicted to increase by over 13% in 2001. With handheld devices becoming popular replacements for traditional organizers, unit shipments to the Asia/Pacific market are projected to reach nearly 6 million by 2005.
Pumatech's Intellisync desktop synchronization software has been localized for the Taiwanese market. Systar's systems integration solutions will also utilize Pumatech's Intellisync Anywhere software to facilitate remote and LAN-based synchronization between handhelds and mission-critical enterprise groupware applications, as well as the Enterprise Intellisync solution to deploy Intellisync software throughout the organization and manage the workforce's mobile data from a centralized location.
Systar also plans to leverage Pumatech's Satellite Forms software to build custom Palm OS -based applications that seamlessly integrate with vital, back-end corporate data.
These capabilities will be augmented by Systar's adoption of Pumatech's Mind-it and Browse-it software. Mind-it enables enterprise users to stay up to the minute by automatically tracking specific content on the Internet, intranets and extranets, and notifying users in real time via e-mail or mobile devices when the information changes. Browse-it provides a sophisticated transformation engine that optimizes HTML pages for viewing either online or offline via Palm OS or Pocket PC handhelds.
"Our agreement with Systar further illustrates the global adoption of our products and a strong commitment to fulfill the growing mobile needs of enterprises in the Asia/Pacific market," said Brad Rowe, president and CEO of Pumatech. "With our complete synchronization software platform plus change detection, personalization and development capabilities, Systar is empowered to build advanced mobile-computing solutions to grow the systems integrator channel and effectively deliver the essential components of the Real-time Enterprise to Taiwanese corporations."
