One of the best features of a PDA (personal digital assistant) is its ability to exchange data with a desktop computer. This ensures that you’ll only ever have to enter your information once. To facilitate desktop communication, PDAs often ship with HotSync software for communicating with certain desktop PIMs (personal information managers). Pumatech’s Intellisync 4.0 lets you synch with even more third-party PIMs, combining ease of use with complex configuration options for added flexibility. The configuration window displays your settings for the Address Book, Date Book, Expense, Mail, Memo Pad, and To-Do List applications. With a quick glance, you can see which desktop applications each Palm application is exchanging data with and in what manner your Palm is exchanging the data (you can also import and export information to overwrite lost or corrupted information on the Palm or the desktop). If you prefer not to synch a particular Palm application with your desktop PC, deselect the checkbox next to the name of the application. Setting up desktop applications with Intellisync is a very intuitive process. You can select from PIMs, such as Symantec’s ACT! 4.0/2000, Lotus Notes 4.5/4.6/5.0, Lotus Organizer 5.0/6.0, Microsoft Exchange or Outlook, and the Palm Desktop. That way you can synch your Address Book with ACT!, your Date Book with the Palm Desktop, and your tasks with Outlook. You may have noticed that HotSync only synchronizes the inbox of your desktop e-mail program. Intellisync gives you more control over what folders you synchronize and lets you synchronize multiple subfolders as well. | |
