Administrator

yappa-ng (System) Administrator (SysAd)

The "yappa-ng Administrator" has shell-access or ftp-access to the webserver and is responsible for the complete yappa-ng installation. With the help of the Setup Tool he configures all global parameters of yappa-ng and writes the global configuration to the harddisk.

Album Administrator

The "Album Admin" is the owner of an Album and can configure his own Album to his liking, can upload/delete/rotate images, can change the Thumbnailpage Layout and the image sort criteria, can decide if he wants to use image hit counters, Top 10 reports, can write/edit/delete image captions and album-descriptions in all languages, can set userpasswords and much more.
He can also create new sub-albums WITHIN his own Album and give it another admin-password! But outside of his own album/subalbums he is just another user who can only view other albums (if he got a userpassword from the other "Album Admin"). ;-)

Admin Login

This is the login as Album Administrator. You select the Album and THEN you click onto "Admin Login". You can be logged in only to one Album at once. To administer another Album you have to log out from the current Album, select the next Album and log in again. This may sound tiring - but it is the concept yappa-ng follows! The Admin-Password is set during creating a new Album and can be changed from the Album Admin at any time with the help of the Admin Menu.
You can log-in as Admin with the "Admin Login" even if there is a userpassword set!

Admin Menu (Item)

This is the Menu-bar on the left side of the screen when you are logged in as Album Admin. Here you have the selection of all options you have as Album Admin. Some of them are:

Album

An "Album" is one set of photos/images collected in one subdirectory. Each "Album" has a separate set of parameters and can be configured through the Album Administrator. You go to the "Album" by either selecting the "Album" in the Left Navigationbar or by selecting it from the Overview over all Albums view. An "Album" can get created either with the help of the Admin Menu or from the commandline through creating a subirectory manually and copy the photos/images and all essential files into it.
Typically one yappa-ng Gallery consists of many "Albums" in hierarchically tree form.

Errorcodes

Some examples for global parameters are:

Left Navigationbar

The Left Navigation Bar provides the directory-tree of the yappa-ng Gallery. You can select an Album by clicking either on the name or the Preview Image. You can see the number of albums and / or images within this album and you can see how often this album / subalum has been viewed. If you have a "keys-symbol" instead of the Preview Image than the album is locked and is accessable only with a ->user-password.

Setup Tool

The yappa-ng "Setup Tool" was introduced in release 2.2.0 (March 2004). With the help of this tool the setup of yappa-ng now is really easy. If any errors are encountered during the configuration the "Setup Tool" will point exactly to this error and give advice as to how to solve the issue!
All Parameters of this Global Configuration file are explained in detail within this "Setup Tool". For many of the topics there are additional help pages available to deepen the understanding of the meaning of the parameter. The "Setup Tool" will be run from the yappa-ng (Administrator!

Single Image View

The "Single Image View" is the screen where you see only one image/photo/video. Here you can select different sizes of this image to view and you can select the previous / next image.

If you changed the viewing-size this new size will be remembered until you change the viewing-size again OR you leave this yappa-ng gallery and visit it after a view hours, days, weeks,.....
